Wellness Wednesday….

Academics are a key component of University, but the student experience isn’t solely defined by your education. We believe that University is about the friends you’ll make, the moments you’ll experience, and the passions you’ll discover. Whether you follow the same road for four years or you end up down a completely new path, your experience at Western should be a journey of self-reflection and discovery.

Through our year-long Wellness Wednesday series, we want to help you find your passion. Across North America, Wellness Wednesdays have become a symbol of support for mental health awareness and advocacy. From classics like “therapy dogs” and “mid-term care packages” to new initiatives like our “Tri-Sci Wellness Fair”, our Wellness Wednesday events are designed to promote a balanced lifestyle beyond the academic. Whether you enjoy the arts, physical activity, social outings, or cultural events, we want you to share in the broader experiences at Western. Regardless of where your journey takes you, we hope that our Wellness Wednesdays are supporting you along the way.

PAST EVENTS

Like you, we also can’t believe the winter break is already over but what a better way to start the semester with a NEW YEAR and a NEW YOU! Drop by Taylor between 10am-4pm this Wednesday to enjoy free food like protein bars, clementines, and breakfast cereal! Have fun with fitness trivia and improve your physical health by competing for the most push-ups or longest plank! We’ll be giving away fitness passes to the Rec Centre and London Fitness Studios for workout classes like yoga, zumba, and cardio dance (which aren’t normally covered by the student pass)! Start the new year right by being the best you can be!

Is it too early to start singing “all I want for Christmas is you”? We don’t think so! Drop by Taylor between 12-4pm this Wednesday, Dec 5 to spread the holiday cheer and write thoughtful messages for your fellow students to read! Make your own warm fuzzy ornaments for our positivi-tree, enjoy FREE hot chocolate, and drop by for a chance to win a $25 gift-card to indigo! Stay cozy this winter season and be sure to take care of your mental health as we head into exams!

Finally finished midterms? Not ready for final exams? SSC has got your back! Drop by Taylor between 12-4pm on Wednesday, November 28 for a free open yogurt bar with toppings like nuts and berries. Have fun playing plinko with FRESH and stay for our interactive photo-booth where you can take pictures with yoga and weights! We’ll be giving out a $50 gift-card to Loblaws so be sure to drop by and have fun! Remember to stay well this school-year!

Science Students’ Council is proud to present Wellness Wednesdays: Nutrition Edition @ Taylor Atrium on Wednesday, November 7 from 12pm-4pm! Nutrition Edition is an event focused on healthy eating and maintaining a balanced diet, with a goal of increasing healthy food choices in the student community. Being a student is difficult, especially with the academic and financial pressures placed upon us, but we hope to provide you with different ways of maintaining a healthier and balanced lifestyle.

In collaboration with Food Support Services, the Grocery Checkout on-campus, and Loblaws, we’ll be hosting interactive games and discussions surrounding nutrition and healthy eating. In addition, we’ll be providing FREE fresh fruit and hosting a raffle for you to potentially win $70+ in gift-cards and giveaways. Remember to stay well this school-year and to take time for yourself beyond your academics at Western. Eat healthy and stay well!

In support of student wellbeing, Science Students’ Council is proud to present Midterm Care Packages @ Taylor Atrium on Oct 17 from 10am-4pm! We want to remind you all to take care of your mental health. Academics are important, but nothing matters more than your personal happiness and wellbeing, so make sure to look after your mental health this midterm season.

Western Wellness Day is planned in collaboration with Western Marketing Association, This Mind of Mine, jack.org, Social Science Students’ Council, and the Social Science Soph Wellness Team. Check out the other Western Wellness Day booths @ Weldon and UCC to learn more about the mental health resources at Western.

TRI-SCI is back and we are better than ever! Presenting the greatest wellness event that this campus has ever seen, get ready for a jam-packed day filled with therapy dogs, photo-ops, healthy living talks, FREE snacks, stress ball making, and more! What could be a better way to start the year???

Join us on October 3rd for our Wellness Fair! Come by the UCC Atrium between 9am-2pm OR the Rec Centre from 6-9pm to learn more about why physical, emotional, and mental wellness matters!
